Sunday 28th December – skiing - Les Gets**** cloud and snow

We had a good night up at Les Chavannes car park despite the fact that it continued to snow, went down to minus 4 degrees and the piste basher was doing his best at 4am! After breakfast we went skiing, buying our 5 hour lift pass at the Caisse a few yards up the road. We made the most of our time and went on several lifts and pistes including down into Les Gets and over to the outskirts of Morzine. We think we arrived in Morzine just across the valley from the Chamoix hotel we stayed in years ago. We did the blue path from the top of Les Gets into Morzine 3 times because it was good snow all the way down as people were all going in a straight line and not cutting up the snow which was what was happening on the red pistes. Although there has been lots of snow it hasn’t had the chance to be pisted down yet and it is a bit too busy and a few too many English to make it perfect for us!! I really enjoyed the powder at the side of the piste down to Les Gets this morning because the piste was really bumpy. I had some spectacular wipe outs losing both skis on occasions. It snowed nearly all day and was very cold (enough to freeze our water bottle in the rucksack and turn the mobile phone off and it took ages to coax it back into life when we got back to the van!). We stopped for lunch and Mag had to eat her roll with her gloves on! We stayed out right to the end of the 5 hours then back to the van to warm up, dry our ski clothes out and have a cuppa and snacks! Read and played cards then had a big mixture of left overs for tea:) Rob texted to say they had changed their crossing to today and were very near Calais so hope to hear soon that they are back safe and sound at sayers croft:) Mick apparently got stuck on the M25 and no word from the others who were flying back to Bristol. He texted again to say they were all home and that the BBC news was awash with news about chaos in the alps, people sleeping in their cars and 5 dead!
